การพัฒนาทางด้านพลังงานทดแทนจะร่วมกับหน่วยวิจัยและนวัตกรรมด้านวัสดุอัจฉริยะ ภาควิชาฟิสิกส์ คณะวิทยาศาสตร์ สจล. เพื่อพัฒนา Graphene battery โดยใช้ Microwave high-temperature processing เพื่อเตรียมวัสดุแกรไฟต์คุณภาพสูงจากวัสดุชีวมวลต่าง ๆ จากพืชเศรษฐกิจเช่น ปาล์มน้ำมัน ยางพารา มะพร้าว เป็นต้น ซึ่งจะใช้ในการผลิตวัสดุกราฟีนที่จะใช้เป็นขั้วไฟฟ้าของ Graphene battery
